About

Hello.  I’m Susan Carroll,

Welcome to LifeOlogy

Here I have created a gentle, supportive and inspirational space  providing information, resources and activities about mental health and well-being.

The insights and knowledge shared here come from the many hours of reading and researching I did when living with depression and anxiety and trying to find ways to improve my own mental well-being.

While I still experience some struggles, a deeper level of knowledge and understanding, combined with a toolbox of mental health enhancing practices and activities means I am much more equipped to deal with them now.

The inspiration for starting this blog was to share some of what I have learned on my own journey in the hope that you will be inspired to be more proactive in taking care of your mental health and well-being.  It is my belief that mental fitness should be treated the same way as physical fitness and to be at our best we need to take small steps everyday to build, maintain and improve our mental fitness.

By taking care of our mental well-being, we can feel happier and get more enjoyment out of life when times are good, and be stronger and more resilient in dealing with harder times when they arise.

More Personal Stuff About Me

I love reading, writing, learning, music, especially live gigs, coffee and chats with friends. For exercise, I run a little but often and I do Pilates regularly, to say I love exercise would be a bit of a stretch, but I do love how I feel afterwards. Regular exercise definitely works as a mood booster for me.

In the past year, I have taken up dipping in the sea  a few times a week, even through the winter.  I still can’t quite believe, I have been running in to the sea in freezing temperatures, but there is something really healing and rejuvenating about it. This combined with the camaraderie of the wonderful bunch of women I swim with makes for a very uplifting experience that I find myself being drawn back to again and again.

I also love being curled up in a comfy chair, with a cosy fire and a good book or movie on TV.  I am  a sociable introvert, who, while I love people, I also love my own company, time spent on my own for headspace is as essential to me as breathing.

My background in nursing and social care has equipped me with research skills that ensures the information shared here comes from reliable, evidence-based sources.

I hope that you will enjoy reading my blog and my social media posts, and that you will learn some skills and strategies that you can use in your day to day life to help you feel happier and more fulfilled.
